DOG BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS
Jumping Up
It goes without saying that we want our dogs to be happy. But excitement or over-excitement is a different thing. Jumping up is something that can happen when dogs get over-excited. The bigger the dog, the bigger the problem.
Excitement.
Being able to control our dogs’ excitement is really important, it leads to a more balanced and harmonious home. We’re not talking about not allowing our dogs to be happy or express themselves but not everybody appreciates a dog jumping on them when they open the front door or get the leads out to go for a walk.
When the owner comes home.
The classic situation is when the owner opens the door when they get home from work. The dog runs at them and jumps up. It’s sweet but it gets old pretty quickly.
When visitors arrive.
The second scenario is when you open the door to visitors and the dog decides anyone coming into the house is clearly there to see them and they go crazy about it. There aren’t many people who appreciate the gesture.
Ultimately, a little obedience pays off, followed by some discipline from the owner. If the dog has the obedience to keep a respectful distance followed by the owner or visitor not lavishing the dog with affection as soon as they walk in the door or approach then you will be well on your way to keeping the greeting calm and respectful, whether it is happening inside the home or out on a walk.
